HC Deb 26 February 1946 vol 419 c1732
37. Mr. Osborne

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power if he will introduce legislation to amend Clause 25 of the Electric Lighting (Clauses) Act, 1899, which requires for the first three years, revenue to be made up to 20 per cent. of the capital outlay by new consumers, since this requirement is a hardship on people living in rural areas and has prevented the extension of electricity services in those areas.

Mr. Shinwell

This matter is being borne in mind in connection with the Government's proposals to place the electricity supply industry under public ownership.

Mr. Osborne

Is the Minister aware that the Mid-Lincolnshire Company, which was previously owned by Italians and was taken over by the Custodian of Enemy Property, admits that Government officials have been responsible for doing this recently, and what hope have we of getting Government officials to help the people?

Mr. Shinwell

Why does the hon. Gentleman conceal this information from me?

Mr. Osborne

The right hon. Gentleman should know it.
