HC Deb 20 February 1946 vol 419 c1148
49. Squadron-Leader Sir Gifford Fox

asked the Minister of Food if he is aware that a quantity Of wheat stored at Chalgrove aerodrome has been allowed to deteriorate; and if he will take steps, in view of the serious food position, to see that no further stocks are allowed to deteriorate.

Sir B. Smith

No wheat has been stored at Chalgrove Aerodrome by my Department or, so far as I am aware, on private account A quantity of imported wheat, however, was recently stored by my Department near the aerodrome at Belson barn. This wheat was consigned to a miller at the end of January last, and since no complaint has been received as to the quality or condition of the wheat it may be assumed that no deterioration had taken place while it was in store. All wheat stored by my Department is subject to periodical inspection, and steps are taken immediately to deal with any deterioration.
