HC Deb 20 February 1946 vol 419 cc1151-2
53. Colonel Stoddart-Scott

asked the Minister of Food if he is aware that there is an increasing shortage of sausages in the shops; and if he will make available to sausage makers a- bigger supply of manufacturing meat and, in order to increase the output, reduce the meat content if necessary from 40 per cent, to 37⅛ Per cent.

Sir B. 'Smith

I am not aware of any recent increasing shortage of sausages. The shortage has unfortunately existed for some months owing to the low level of meat available for the purpose. Nor do I consider that a reduction in the meat content of sausages is warranted. As regards the suggestion that a bigger supply of meat should be made available to the manufacturers," I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the reply which I gave on 25th January to a Question by the hon. Member for Eye (Mr. E. Granville).
