§ 30. Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the President of the Board of Trade if he will consider reducing the minimum number of working hours from 22 to 20 per week for the purposes of obtaining industrial supplementary clothing coupons, so as to permit part-time women workers on afternoon shifts to qualify for these coupons.
§ Sir S. CrippsThe present arrangements cover part-time workers engaged 774 in occupations which qualify for supplements if they work a minimum of 22 hours. Experience has shown that this minimum covers the great majority of cases of special need, but I am ready to consider any adjustments which may be proposed through the Trades Union Congress or the British Employers' Confederation who advise me in these matters.
