Mr. Baker Whiteasked the Minister of Food whether, in view of his decision to end the pre-empting of homegrown soft-fruit crops in 1948, he will consider withholding the pre-empting Order on these crops for the first 14 days in which each crop comes on the market in 1947, thus giving the public an opportunity to enjoy fresh home-grown soft fruit.
§ Mr. StracheyTo maintain the jam ration it is, unfortunately, necessary to pre-empt supplies as soon as the main crop comes to maturity; but only half the home crop will be bought in this way in 1947.
