HC Deb 12 December 1946 vol 431 c1325
38. Mr. Sparks

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many applications he has received for sites for industrial purposes in quasi-satellites and new towns within the scope of the Greater London plan, how many of these are for the transfer of industrial undertakings from areas in London and Greater London; and how many are new undertakings.

Sir S. Cripps

Some 1,500 firms have notified their desire for new industrial premises in the area of the Greater London plan. These include about 200 firms who have shown an interest in the possibility of sites in new towns or quasi-satellites. The applicants are predominantly existing London firms, but the split-up asked for in the second and third parts of the Question is not immediately available. I would add, however, that the new towns and quasi-satellites are intended to accommodate firms moving out from the congested parts of London and approval will not normally be given to new undertakings or to firms from other parts of the country.
