HC Deb 12 December 1946 vol 431 c1336
60. Viscount Hinchingbrooke

asked the Minister of Labour how many of the 1,019,000 persons employed in local government service in September, 1946, are employed in regions, county councils, county borough councils, municipal borough councils, urban and rural district councils, respectively.

Mr. Isaacs

I am having the figures extracted and will forward them to the hon. Member.

Viscount Hinchingbrooke

As the number of civil servants employed by the Central Government is 1,007,000, does not the right hon. Gentleman think that he is losing the race with the local authorities and had he not better add a quarter of a million civil servants?

Mr. Isaacs

Perhaps with that information in mind I might be able to present the figures in a different way.

Mr. De La Bère

Will the figures be given in HANSARD?
