§ 31. Mr. Dodds-Parkerasked the Minister of Health whether he will appoint a committee to consider means whereby fully-trained midwives who have not the full nursing qualification as a State Registered Nurse can rise to the top of their profession as matrons of maternity hospitals, provided they show that they have full experience and capabilities to justify their appointment.
§ Mr. BevanI propose, in agreement with my right hon. Friends the Secretary of State for Scotland and the Minister of Labour, to appoint a committee to inquire into the future of the midwifery profession generally.
