HC Deb 04 December 1946 vol 431 c311
6. Mr. W. Shepherd

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation what plans exist for the eventual closing of Croydon as a civil airport.

Mr. Lindgren

No plans have been made for the closing of Croydon Airport.

Mr. Shepherd

Is the Parliamentary Secretary satisfied that Croydon conforms to the standards to which an airport should measure, in view of the amount of traffic which it has to bear at the present time?

Mr. Lindgren

In so far as it is used for Continental services, these are being transferred, as quickly as possible, to London Airport and Northolt. The future, so far as Croydon is concerned, will be for charter and civil flying.
