HC Deb 02 December 1946 vol 431 c3
3. Mr. Attewell

asked the Minister of Food if he is now in a position to grant the extra cheese ration to building-trade workers living in rural areas.

Mr. Strachey

With my right hon. Friend the Minister of Labour I am doing all I can to arrange for building trade workers to get packed meals "on the job."

Mr. Driberg

Is my right hon. Friend aware that it is many months since he personally expressed concern in this House about the difficulties of building trade workers working for small firms in outlying rural areas and unable to get midday meals? Will he say what progress has been made in that matter?

An Hon. Member

None.

Mr. Strachey

We are concerned about this and we are trying to get these men packed meals because of the very great difficulty of distinguishing between rural builders and other builders if we issued a special cheese ration, but I have not closed my mind to that.
