§ 2. Mr. Beswickasked the Minister of National Insurance whether his attention has been drawn to the note on form FAM. 2 that no claim is to be made in respect of a child receiving a pension under the Orphans', Widows' and Old Age Pensions Act; and if he will clarify the position as this is causing concern to widowed mothers who have read paragraph II of leaflet FAM. I and some of whom now believe that they are debarred from claiming a family allowance.
§ The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of National Insurance (Mr. Lindgren)The note to which my hon. Friend refers speaks only of orphans' pensions, that is, pensions paid to children who have lost both their parents. It does not apply to cases of children whose widowed mother is still alive. As to which I would refer to paragraphs 11 and 19 of F.A.M. I. Moreover, every such widow who has two or more children should have received direct from the Department a special explanatory letter and form of application.
