§ 76. Mr. G. Wallaceasked the Minister of Transport if he is prepared in consultation with the Ministry of Labour, to consider making arrangements, through the appropriate channels, for quarterly season tickets on railways to be available to city workers on weekly repayment terms by deductions from wages by employers subject to the agreement of the employee.
§ Mr. BarnesThe suggestion appears to be that employers should purchase on behalf of their employees, or advance money to their employees to purchase quarterly season tickets and recover the money by deductions from wages. This would be a matter for consideration by employers and their employees, and I am afraid that I am not in a position to take action to further its adoption.
§ Mr. WallaceCould not the right hon. Gentleman take a benevolent interest in the suggestion?
§ Mr. BarnesI am afraid my Department is not qualified to take steps in this matter.
