HC Deb 11 April 1946 vol 421 cc2068-9
12. Mr. Peter Freeman

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General when the new Victory stamps will be available for public use; how many are being printed; and what size they will be.

Mr. Burke

The new Victory stamps will, I hope, be on sale at all post offices on and from Tuesday, nth June. 240 millions of the 2½d. value and 24 millions of the 3d. value are being printed. The stamps will be double the size of ordinary stamps.

Mr. Freeman

May I ask if it is possible to have the stamps by V-Day, 8th June, so that they may be used on that day?

Mr. Burke

We have made every possible effort to get them at the earliest possible date and there have been much working of overtime and very great pressure to get them on the date mentioned. It is still doubtful if they will be ready even for that.
