HC Deb 11 April 1946 vol 421 cc2069-70
16. Mr. C. S. Taylor

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General whether the post office at Pevensey Bay, which was closed during the war, will now be reopened.

Mr. Burke

It has not yet been possible to reopen the post office at Pevensey Bay for lack of a candidate. An application has recently been received and, if the applicant proves suitable and can provide satisfactory premises, the office will be reopened as soon as possible.

Mr. Taylor

Does the hon. Gentleman realise how much inconvenience is caused at Pevensey Bay at the moment, especially in view of the large returning population which was evacuated during the war?

Mr. Burke

Yes, Sir, I am well aware of that, but the difficulty is not merely that of finding a suitable applicant, but also that of suitable premises.
