HC Deb 11 April 1946 vol 421 cc2097-8
63. Mr. Shurmer

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether, in view of the growing demand in the city of Birmingham for Government publications, he will consider opening a branch of H.M.S.O. in that city.

The Financial Secretary to the Treasury (Mr. Glenvil Hall)

No, Sir.

Mr. Shurmer

Is the non. Gentleman aware that Birmingham has a larger population than all the other cities that have a Stationery Office establishment at the present time?

Mr. Glenvil Hall

There are only four cities which have an establishment of this sort—London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Manchester, and I am not sure that Birmingham is larger than any of them.
