HC Deb 11 April 1946 vol 421 c2096
55. Dr. Segal

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware that a delay of several months is involved before suitable applicants from Ireland can obtain permits from his Department to undertake domestic service in this country; and what steps he proposes to take to shorten this delay.

Mr. Isaacs

I assume my hon. Friend is referring to Eire. There must necessarily be some delay in these cases before permission to travel can be given owing to the inquiries which have to be made in Great Britain and in Eire, but it is only in exceptional cases that this amounts to several months. The possibility of adjusting the arrangements to avoid delays is under constant examination.
