HC Deb 11 April 1946 vol 421 c2099
70. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Minister of Health whether the view which he expressed some months ago of reducing the number of doctors serving in the armed Forces to a ratio of about 2 per cent. of personnel has been achieved; and how many of the doctors so released since VE-Day are Scottish doctors who have returned to practice in Scotland.

Mr. Bevan

If my hon. and learned Friend has in mind the ratio of 2 per 1,000 referred to in my reply to the hon. and gallant Member for Pudsey and Otley (Colonel Stoddart-Scott) on 13th December, the answer is "Yes." On the second part of the Question I am informed by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland that the number of doctors released from the Forces since VE-Day includes 926 who were recruited from Scotland, but it is not at present known how many of these have returned to practice in that country.
