HC Deb 09 April 1946 vol 421 cc1787-8
46. Mr. C. S. Taylor

asked the Prime Minister whether his attention has been drawn to the various reports of the Select Committee on Statutory Rules and Orders, especially with regard to the delay by certain Government Departments in the laying of Orders on the Table of the House; and what steps the Government intend to take to reduce delay in the future.

The Prime Minister

Yes, Sir. A circular was issued to all Departments on 31st December last drawing their attention to the need for punctual compliance with Statutory directions for the laying before Parliament of Statutory Rules and Orders whether in draft or in final form.

Colonel Sir Charles MacAndrew

May I ask the Prime Minister whether he will instruct the Treasury to see that the Reports of this Committee are sent to the Departments, which are not receiving them at the present time?

The Prime Minister

I will look into that, but I have no information.

Captain Crowder

Could not the Prime Minister arrange to have more staff at the Stationery Office, because it is the Stationery Office who are always blamed for delay in printing these Orders?

The Prime Minister

Subject to the question of duplication, to which I have already referred, I will look into the matter.
