HC Deb 09 April 1946 vol 421 c1769
1. Major Bruce

asked the Minister of Town and Country Planning if, as a result of discussions with the interests concerned and with local authority associations, he is now in a position to make a statement on outdoor advertisements.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Town and Country Planning (Mr. Fred Marshall)

Preliminary discussions on broad principles with the interests concerned and with local authority associations have taken place, but further discussions on detail are necessary, arid I do not expect that it will be possible for my right. hon. Friend to make any statement for some considerable time.

Major Bruce

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware of the considerable anxiety lest the countryside should be desecrated by these species of advertisements which were a prevalent feature before the war?

Mr. Marshall

The Minister is very conscious of the urgency of this matter, but it has to take its place among other matters which are probably of greater urgency.
