HC Deb 08 April 1946 vol 421 cc1631-2
44. Mr. Touche

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will consider granting an allowance of clothing coupons to policemen who retire, in view of the fact that whilst in the police force they have to give up coupons for uniform and that on retirement these uniforms have to be returned.

Mr. Belcher

No, Sir.

Mr. Touche

Will the hon. Gentleman say why these policemen are given no coupons on retirement? On what grounds have they to give up their coupons for uniform?

Mr. Belcher

The hon. Member is misinformed. Members of the police force have not had to give up all of their coupons, but they have had to give up a proportion of them, and they have received the same ration as other civilians during the war. They are in a different position from the people who have been in the Armed Services, and who have received no civilian coupons at all.
