HC Deb 08 April 1946 vol 421 cc1650-1
62. Earl Winterton

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs if he is satisfied that all reasonable steps have been taken, as a result of discussions between His Majesty's Government in Great Britain and in the Dominions, to provide passages for the wives of Dominion Service or ex-Servicemen resident in this country who are anxious to go to the Dominions.

The Under-Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs (Mr. Parker)

Every effort is made, having regard to the present acute stringency in passenger shipping, to provide accommodation for the dependants of Dominions Service and ex-Service personnel and for others wishing to proceed to the Dominions. The closest touch is maintained with the Dominion authorities on these questions.

Earl Winterton

Is it possible for the hon. Gentleman, without undue difficulty, to give the actual figures of those who have not obtained passages?

Mr. Parker

No, but there are numerous waiting lists for all the Dominions at the moment.
