HC Deb 08 April 1946 vol 421 cc1632-3
66. Mr. Arthur Allen

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether extra coupons for shoes can now be made available for all schoolchildren.

Mr. Belcher

School children already receive extra coupons and I could not agree to a special issue earmarked for shoes.

Mr. Henderson Stewart

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that there is an acute shortage of children's shoes, and what does he propose to do about it?

Mr. Belcher

Everything is being done to meet the acute shortage of children's shoes to which the hon. Member has referred, and the production of children's shoes in this country at the present is greater than in prewar years.

Mr. Stewart

We cannot get any.

Mr. De la Bère

is the Minister aware that where there is a will there is a way?

Mr. Allen

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that only some school children are receiving extra coupons?
