§ 54. Mr.Jannerasked the Minister of Labour whether, in view of his decision to allow members of the Armed Forces to be transferred to the administrative class of the Civil Service, in a temporary capacity, on terms permitting their service to count for release and gratuity and, in view of other provisions for release which are now to be offered, he will again review age and Service group classification of Service personnel who were released during their Service for special civilian employment.
§ Mr. Ness EdwardsNo, Sir. Those members of the Services who are employed temporarily on administrative duties in the Civil Service are merely seconded; they remain members of the 1393 Armed Forces and continue to receive Service pay. They are therefore in a different position from men released to the Reserve for civilian employment on civilian conditions.
§ Mr. JannerWill my hon. Friend consider the tact that these men were released for very important national work—and only for very important national work—and, in consequence, their term of work in that respect should be taken into consideration; and will he also take into consideration that there are new regulations for the release of conscientious objectors, against which I am making no protest? In view of other persons having been released who have no actual service, will be reconsider the position?
§ Mr. Ness EdwardsWe will keep all these things in mind.
