HC Deb 04 April 1946 vol 421 cc1387-8
42. Mr.Emrys Roberts

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General the total annual amount paid or incurred in the salaries to staff, broadcasting fees, and administrative costs and charges, respectively, in respect of the Welsh Region of the B. B. C.

Mr. Burke

The present annual rate of expenditure on salaries and administrative costs and for artists and speakers in Wales is £144,823, but this figure does not cover certain broadcasting fees which are paid through national agencies, including, for example, the payments to Welsh composers and holders of performing rights. This figure represents only a fraction, of course, of the expenditure on programmes available to listeners in Wales.

Mr. Roberts

Can the Minister state what proportion of broadcasting fees and other charges, paid through central agencies, represents items which are allocated to the programmes of the Welsh Regional?

Mr. Burke

I am afraid I could not.
