HC Deb 03 April 1946 vol 421 cc1245-6
49. Mr. Janner

asked the Lord President of the Council what progress is being made in this country at the present time in the field of research and development relating to gas turbines for industrial purposes, especially for use in power stations.

The Lord President of the Council (Mr. Herbert Morrison)

Research and development on gas turbines is being carried out by both Government and industry. While the chief application of this work up to now has been to aircraft, both Government and industry are fully alive to the need to explore the great possibilities of its applications in other fields, including power generation. The responsibility of the National Gas Turbine Establishment covers research and development on all forms of gas turbines, including those for power stations.
