HC Deb 03 April 1946 vol 421 cc1222-3
6. Mr. Lipson

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs why the Atomic Commission, which was given its mandate by the United Nations Assembly on 24th January, has not yet met; and, in view of the importance and urgency of the duty it has to perform, what steps he is taking to secure an early meeting.

Mr. Bevin

His Majesty's Government are well aware of the importance of the Atomic Energy Commission, and wish to see it begin its work as soon as is practicable. The United Kingdom representative on the Commission and his alternate are already in the United States. Not all the States members of the Commission have yet nominated their representatives. I understand that the Secretary-General is taking further steps to obtain these.

Mr. Lipson

Can the right hon. Gentleman say how many more States have still to nominate representatives?

Mr. Bevin

I would like to have notice of that question.
