HC Deb 03 April 1946 vol 421 c1240
39. Mr. Hector Huģhes

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air what steps he has taken concerning the case of the Scottish airman now undergoing a long term of penal servitude in Peter-head gaol, for the record of proceedings of whose trial in Italy the hon. and learned Member for Aberdeen, North wrote to him; and if he will inquire further into this case and consider whether he can see his way to revise this sentence.

Mr. Strachey

The proceedings of the court-martial, by which this airman was tried, have twice been reviewed by the Air Council, who have found no reason to alter the findings or sentence of the court. My Noble Friend does not feel justified in causing any further review of the proceedings to be undertaken now.

Mr. Hughes

Will the Under-Secretary let me have a copy of the transcript of the court-martial?

Mr. Strachey

It is available to the defendant, as my hon. Friend knows, and a copy could be obtained from him, but in no other way.
