HC Deb 01 April 1946 vol 421 cc797-8
1. Mr. William Shepherd

asked the Minister of Transport whether he has given consideration to eliminating the amber before traffic lights change to green, whilst retaining it when the lights change to red.

The Minister of Transport (Mr. Barnes)

Experiments are being made on the lines suggested by the hon. Member, but it is too early yet to judge the results.

Mr. Shepherd

In the event of these experiments proving successful, will the Minister take powers to see that this practice will be standardised?

Mr. Barnes

I should certainly act in some respects on the result of the experiments.

Mr. Bowles

Are not the amber lights to save the necessity for waiting for the green lights?
