HC Deb 01 April 1946 vol 421 cc827-8
66. Mr. Gerald Williams

asked the Minister of Agriculture what is the cost of running the National Milk Testing Advisory Scheme.

Mr. T. Williams

The total cost for the current year of the National Milk Testing and Advisory Scheme is estimated at approximately £275,000, including capital expenditure of about £40,000 and the estimated expenses of county dairy farm advisory staff, part of which cannot be attributed directly to the scheme. The milk distributive trade cooperate in the working of the scheme, and the cost to them is not included in the above figures.

Mr. Williams

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that it is costing a great deal less in Scotland? Is he satisfied that the English farmer is getting full value for the money?

Mr. Williams

I hope so.
