HC Deb 01 April 1946 vol 421 cc819-20
73. Mr. W. J. Brown

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that the proposed allocation of sheets, blankets, mattresses, etc., to the holiday camp industry is so small as to be almost useless for the needs of the industry for this year and that, unless it can be substantially increased, a large number of holiday camps will not be able to open at all; and whether he will make a further statement on this subject.

Mr. Belcher

I am aware that this special allocation of supplies to hotels, boarding houses and holiday camps will not meet all the needs of the industry, but it should provide additional holiday accommodation this year for some quarter of a million people. Further supplies will be made available whenever this can be done without causing undue hardship to the domestic consumer.

Mr. Brown

In view of the seriousness and urgency of this problem would the hon. Gentleman or his right hon. Friend receive a deputation on this matter?

Mr. Belcher

Yes. Sir.
