HC Deb 01 April 1946 vol 421 cc809-10
22. Mr. Boothby

asked the Minister of Supply what steps he is taking to increase the number of engines available for fishing craft.

Mr. Wilmot

We are in close touch with the manufacturers, who have promised to do all they can to speed up deliveries to meet specially urgent requirements. Production is limited in some cases by shortages of certain components and we are trying to help in overcoming these. Although the industry is, in general, heavily loaded, there are a few firms who can accept orders for certain types of engine for delivery in from four to six months and if the hon. Member will let me have details of any case he has in mind I will do what I can to help.

Mr. Henderson Stewart

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the Minister of Transport informed me recently that i4 committee had been created between the Ministry of Supply and another Ministry to consider granting priorities for engines for the fishing industry, and if the committee has met, can he say what it has done?

Mr. Wilmot

Steps have been taken to accelerate supplies for this industry.

Mr. Henderson Stewart

Are there any priorities? That is the suggestion which the Ministry of Supply made to me.

Mr. Wilmot

Yes, here are some priorities.
