HC Deb 01 April 1946 vol 421 cc801-2
9. Mr. Osborne

asked the Minister of Transport when the duel carriageway on the Six Hills Road, between Ratcliffe aerodrome and the Durham Ox, Leicestershire, is going to be reopened to the public in view of the fact that the Army vehicles were removed many weeks ago.

Mr. Barnes

Work required to make the road safe for traffic has been completed and the road was reopened on 26th March.

Mr. Osborne

Is there any necessary connection between the fact that the Question was put down and the road was opened two days later? Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that that road has been standing idle since 1st January?

Mr. Barnes

If there is any connection, the hon. Gentleman ought to be satisfied with the action taken.

Mr. Osborne

May I ask the Minister if he is aware that there are many similar dual carriage roads which should and could be opened?

Captain Crookshank

Does that mean that the right hon. Gentleman proposes never to take action unless Questions are put down?

Mr. Barnes

It does not mean anything of the kind. It is useful sometimes to know that we do good work.
