HC Deb 16 October 1945 vol 414 c1039

Motion made, and Question proposed, That a sum, not exceeding £100, be granted to His Majesty, to defray the charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1946, for the cost of the war services of the Home Office.

The Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department (Mr. Oliver)

The necessity for this Vote is purely formal and arises out of the abolition of the Ministry of Home Security on 28th May of this year. The Estimate of that Ministry was included in the statement of the Vote of Credit for 1945–46, as in earlier years. The amount of that Estimate covered a full year but by reason of the abolition of the Ministry of Home Security and the desire for simplicity in accounting, it has been decided to cancel the whole of the Ministry of Home Security Vote and charge all the expenditure of the year on this new supplementary Home Office Vote. It is purely a formal matter, and, with that explanation, I ask the Committee to approve that this small sum be granted.
