HC Deb 29 November 1945 vol 416 cc1716-7

Lords Amendment: In line 9, leave out "the purposes for which it was made" and insert:

" the purposes specified in Subsection (1) of Section one of the Emergency Powers (Defence) Act, 1939 ".

12.53 a.m.

The Secretary of State for the Home Department (Mr. Ede)

I beg to move, "That this House doth agree with the Lords in the said Amendment."

This Amendment is rather more than a drafting Amendment. It makes it more definite what are the purposes alluded to in the words that were originally in the Bill. They are limited now to those specified in Subsection (1) of Section I of the Emergency Powers (Defence) Acts, 1939, and they, therefore, if they do anything, limit the scope in a way in which the Government intended it should be.
