HC Deb 26 November 1945 vol 416 cc878-9
80. Mr. Dye

asked the Minister of War Transport whether he is aware that last week the L.N.E.R. Company, without previous notice, suddenly refused to receive a considerable quantity of vegetables at their Norfolk stations, resulting in the loss of quantities of perishable vegetables; and what steps he is taking to prevent such occurrences in future.

Mr. Barnes

I am informed that last week there was a shortage of wagons at the L.N.E.R. stations in Norfolk for vegetable traffic, but I am not aware that this resulted in any loss of perishable vegetables. The importance of avoiding such loss is fully appreciated and every effort is made to provide road transport where sufficient railway wagons are not available.
