HC Deb 26 November 1945 vol 416 c884
33. Colonel Crosthwaite-Eyre

asked the Minister of War Transport how many vessels are allocated for moving Service personnel between Norway and this country; and, in view of the delay in bringing back Army personnel from this theatre to this country for demobilisation, if he will augment the number so employed.

Mr. Barnes

The allocation of troopships for the movement of personnel between Norway and this country varies according to Service requirements. The only delay of which I am aware in bringing back Army personnel from Norway for demobilisation occurred in the case of a few hundred troops who were due to arrive by 10th November. The ship allocated to lift them broke down, but an alternative vessel brought them back to this country on 19th November. The remaining members of our Forces in Norway who are due for demobilisation will be brought home in time for their demobilisation dates, in accordance with arrangements agreed with the War Office.
