§ 36. Major Digbyasked the Minister of War Transport what action his Ministry at present takes to prohibit the removal of 886 material forming part of the seashore in order to protect the coast from erosion; and if he is aware that a considerable amount of coast erosion is taking place, particularly along the coast of Dorset.
§ Mr. BarnesWhen I receive complaints from any source or reports from my local officers that erosion is being caused through the removal of materials from the seashore, I make any necessary inquiries and then decide whether it is desirable to make an Order under the Coast Protection Act, 1939, to prohibit, restrict or impose conditions as to the further removal of materials. I am aware that erosion is taking place at various places on the coast, but it is not usually due to the removal of materials. If the hon. and gallant Member will send me any information he may have that removals are causing erosion on any particular part of the coast, I shall be happy to have the matter examined.
