HC Deb 26 November 1945 vol 416 cc888-9
52. Mr. De la Bère

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether, in view of the fact that farmers cannot face the financial loss of selling their tubercular cows and replacing them with tested animals, he will consider introducing a scheme for dealing with this problem by areas, under which the diseased cows would be slaughtered and compensation paid to the farmers by the Government.

The Minister of Agriculture (Mr. Thomas Williams)

I do not accept the implications of the first part of the Question as being of general application. With regard to the latter part, the question whether further measures can be adopted to reduce the incidence of tuberculosis in cattle is engaging my attention.
