HC Deb 26 November 1945 vol 416 c900
Mr. Nicholson

May I ask the Leader of the House a question on Business? Can he say whether the Government are contemplating, as rumour has it, making an important statement on Indian policy this week; whether it is to be made in another place and also made simultaneously in this House, and whether we shall b£ given as long notice as possible?

The Lord President of the Council (Mr. Herbert Morrison)

I understand that the Under-Secretary of State for India did inform the House that it was contemplated that a statement would be made with regard to India. I cannot say on which day it will be made, but it is under consideration and will be made fairly shortly.

Mr. Nicholson

Will the House be given as much notice as possible?

Mr. Morrison

I do not know. It depends whether a question is put on the Order Paper or whether it is made as a Ministerial statement. I cannot be sure, but I suggest to the hon. Member that, it it is possible, he might like it to be made known through the usual channels in a way which is familiar to us all.

Mr. Eden

It ought to be made clear that, if it is to be made in another place, it will be made here at the same time.

Mr. Morrison

Yes, Sir, I have taken care of that.
