HC Deb 20 November 1945 vol 416 cc215-6
31. Major Tufton Beamish

asked the Minister of Labour what further information has been provided to members of the Armed Forces on overseas settlement, as promised on page 35 of the pamphlet, "Release and Resettlement"; and whether he will explain the latest developments in this connection.

Mr. Isaacs

I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the White Paper entitled "Migration within the British Commonwealth," issued in June last, and to the reply given to a question by the hon. Member for North Ilford (Mrs. Ridealgh) on 25th October, in which it was stated that discussions were still proceeding with the Australian and Southern Rhodesian Governments. Pending the result of these discussions it is not possible to add to the information already published on this question.

Major Beamish

Does the Minister realise that this is a most important matter; and when is he going to let the men in the Services, and those released, know how they stand? They have been waiting for this information for months, and will not the Government get a move on with this?

Mr. Isaacs

If the hon. Member will look at the answer, he will see that it is some other Governments, and not this one, that are holding them up.
