36. Flight-Lieutenant Park inasked the Under-Secretary of State for Air what methods are used by his Department to bring about a rapid reduction of establishments to correspond with the reduced operational work of many units and commands; and what independent checks are employed to ensure that work of low priority is not undertaken solely out of keenness to keep units fully occupied.
§ Mr. StracheyAll establishments are under continual review by the Air Ministry Establishments Committee which has local branches overseas. These include finance members as well as service officers. They review the establishments in detail and report direct to the Air Ministry and not through Commanders-in-Chief. That does not mean that all the retraining and reposting at present necessary for the release programme may not sometimes result in particular airmen being under employed for short periods.
