HC Deb 07 November 1945 vol 415 cc1286-7
65. Air-Commodore Harvey

asked the President of the Board of Trade the number of industrial premises still requisitioned by all Government departments in Macclesfield and Congleton; and an estimate of the dates of their release.

Mr. Ellis Smith

Eighteen industrial premises in Congleton, totalling 166,000 square feet, and 18 industrial premises in Macclesfield, totalling 83,000 square feet, are held by Government Departments. It is hoped that these premises will be released in the course of the next few months.

Air-Commodore Harvey

Is the Minister aware that the Barracks Printing Mill at Macclesfield has been empty since July, except for an internal crane; and the release of this building is still held up, and is preventing the expansion of the business and the employment of ex-Servicemen?

Mr. Smith

My right hon. Friend, on Monday, outlined the policy pursued in connection with this matter, I think to the satisfaction of the House. I will give an undertaking to the hon. and gallant Member that if he will furnish me with particulars I will see that an immediate investigation is made.
