§ 9. Mr. John Lewisasked the First Lord of the Admiralty if he will consider the position of Danish citizens who volunteered for service with the Royal Navy and who, on demobilisation, are being shipped back to Denmark immediately without having the benefit of the 56 days' leave with pay to which they understood they were entitled; and in view of the fact that some of these men are married to English women, will he take steps to ensure that fair treatment is accorded to them.
Mr. AlexanderThese men were given the option of being released immediately and repatriated, or of remaining in the Royal Navy until their age and service 1256 groups were reached. They chose to be released, and became entitled to clothing benefit, service gratuities, and post war credits. Had they chosen to remain in the Service, they would have been entitled to 56 days' leave with pay in addition. They were all granted 10–14 days leave whilst awaiting demobilisation.
