HC Deb 22 March 1945 vol 409 c971
21. Mr. De Chair

asked the Secretary of State for Burma whether he is yet in a position to announce the decision of His Majesty's Government as a result of the deliberations of the Cabinet Committee which has been considering the future of Burma.

The Secretary of State for Burma (Mr. Amery)

The Government have been giving close consideration to future policy in Burma, but I am not yet in a position to make a statement.

Mr. De Chair

Will my right hon. Friend try to awaken some of the sleeping beauties on the Cabinet Committee and remind them that the so-called independent State of Burma which was set up by the Japanese has now been liberated without any indication from us to the Burmese people as to their future?

Mr. Amery

All considerations are in the mind of the Cabinet and attention is being given to this matter.
