Friend refers, it was necessary to demolish blocks of flats on both sides of the road. During this demolition, the road had to be closed. The work has, unfortunately, taken longer than usual, because men have, from time to time, been taken away from the site to do urgent repair work elsewhere. I hope, however, that the road will be opened before the end of the month.
§ Sir H. WilliamsIs the hon. Member aware that I have seen people working on this road every day for seven months? One would have thought that the work would have been finished now.
§ Mr. Noel-BakerI am not responsible for that part of the work, but it is clear that while the work is going on, the road has to be closed. It is being constantly used for mobile cranes, lorries, and so on.
