HC Deb 20 March 1945 vol 409 cc604-5
2. Sir Herbert Williams

asked the President of the Board of Trade for what reasons his Department has taken steps for bringing into being an organisation to be known as the Institute of Management; what connection there is between this Institute and the Institute of Distribution; and whether either of these Institutions are to receive any financial help from the Government.

The President of the Board of Trade (Mr. Dalton)

No such steps have been taken, but I propose shortly to discuss with the various existing management organisations the possibility of closer cooperation between them. There is, so far as I know, no connection between any of these bodies and the Institute of Distribution, and there is no intention of making any grant from public funds to any of them.

Sir H. Williams

Will the Institute of Distribution have any official position in connection with the proposed census of distribution?

Mr. Dalton

I do not know much about this Institute.

Mr. Shinwell

Is the idea to promote greater efficiency in private enterprise?
