HC Deb 15 March 1945 vol 409 c369
15. Captain Gammans

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is prepared to consider the complete abolition of the black-out regulations.

The Secretary of State for the Home Department (Mr. Herbert Morrison)

Though I share my hon. and gallant Friend's desire to cancel war-time restrictions so soon as they may no longer serve a definite public purpose, I fear the time has not yet come when the black-out should be completely abolished.

Captain Gammams

Is it not a fact that there is no black-out in Paris at all?

Mr. Morrison

I do not know, Sir.

Mr. Bowles

Can my right hon. Friend give the House any indication as to whether he still believes in this policy of strength through black-out?

Mr. Morrison

I always believe in the policy that I am pursuing.

Mr. Bowles

But for how long?
