HC Deb 14 March 1945 vol 409 cc217-8
27. Mr. E. J. Williams

asked the Minister of Works whether he will inquire into the shortage of materials for housing repairs in Ogmore and Garw urban area where persons are seriously affected by mining subsidence and deterioration of war years.

Mr. Hicks

There should be no shortage of bricks or cement in any part of the country. Unfortunately there is a very heavy demand for the lighter materials (e.g. plasterboards, slates, wallboard and plaster) in London and the other bombed areas, and shortages are occurring elsewhere. An allotment of these materials is made to districts which have not suffered from enemy action, but it is necessarily small. If the hon. Member will let me know the materials which are particularly short in the Ogmore and Garw urban areas, I will have an investigation made.
