HC Deb 07 March 1945 vol 408 cc2015-6
43. Mr. Lewis

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport if he is aware that the restrictions imposed by his Department on the carriage of various building materials and fittings by rail are causing delay in the carrying out of repairs to war-damaged premises in some districts and if he will give permission for such materials and accessories to be moved by rail to places where they are required for such purposes.

Mr. Noel-Baker

I have received no information that repairs to damaged premises have been delayed by the restrictions which have had to be, imposed on the normal acceptance and movement of traffic on some sections of the railways. There are special arrangements whereby consignments of building materials urgently required for the repair of bomb-damaged buildings may be secured, in spite of any traffic restrictions. If my hon. Friend will let me know of any cases which he has in mind, I will make inquiries.
