HC Deb 01 March 1945 vol 408 c1559
49. Mr. Henderson Stewart

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he is aware of the difficulty experienced by trawler companies in obtaining fish baskets; and what steps are being taken to increase supplies.

Mr. T. Williams

There have been difficulties from time to time in maintaining an adequate supply of willows for fish baskets, but so far as I am aware these have hitherto been successfully overcome with the aid of the National Basket and Willow Trades Advisory Committee who have given us every assistance. If there is a shortage at the present time at any port and the facts are brought to my right hon. Friend's notice, he will do his best to arrange for the necessary supplies.

Mr. Stewart

Will the right hon. Gentleman consider providing some measure of priority to this industry because without fish baskets fish supplies cannot be handled?

Mr. Williams

Yes. The hon. Member will be aware that wherever a case has been brought to the notice of my right hon. Friend supplies have been made available very quickly.
